Guest Speaker David Leone is General Motors Executive Chief Engineer for Performance Luxury Vehicles. He previously was Global Vehicle Line Executive for Global Rear Wheel Drive and Performance Cars. Prior to that, Mr. Leone held key engineering and leadership roles for numerous GM products, particularly Cadillac vehicles.
In his present position, he leads the team that developed the new Cadillac ATS, the brand's compact luxury sport sedan. In January, the ATS was named 2013 Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Not only does it serve as the brand's entry into the world's most significant luxury car segment, the ATS's nimble, quick and fun driving performance is challenging the world's best, and expanding Cadillac's customer base in a dynamic new way.
Recently, Mr. Leone's team announced a new 420-horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine that will power the 2014 Cadillac CTS and reach a top speed of about 170 mph. The new CTS is 5 inches longer than today's car and, at the same time, 250 lbs lighter. This was achieved like it was on the ATS, with more efficient designs from bumper to bumper and smart use of lighter-weight materials.
Dave, an Italian American, will speak to the group about how the ATS was developed and why it is performing so well on the road.
